What I've found works best is to level everything up to 6, and then continue to have laser 2 levels higher. So, I've gotten over 8m points in endless as my high recently! I've come to find that where you place your finger on the screen is where the guns aim, it's not 'locked' to the dotted line that comes out of the first gun, so to speak.
